The Disability and Access Student Advisory Committee provides a way for students to provide direct input to D&A in order to: 1) help D&A better meet the needs of UT students with disabilities 2) foster leadership skills in UT students with interests in disabilities and 3) encourage student advocacy for disability awareness and disability-related issues on campus. Students with and without disabilities are encouraged to apply and share their experiences and ideas.
The committee will be led by D&A Staff. Agenda items may include items such as gathering feedback on best ways to communicate with students, reviewing D&A documents and materials, discussing ideas for how to improve the accommodation process on campus, and requesting student suggestions for D&A programming.
Requirements for student membership are: 1) current enrollment as a UT-Austin student 2) availability to meet at the committee meeting time, and 3) commitment to making a positive contribution to the awareness and experience of UT students with disabilities. Students Advisory members will serve from the beginning of the fall semester through the end of the next spring semester (1 year). Participation in the Student Advisory Committee requires monthly 1.5 hour meetings on the first Tuesday of each month from 3:30 – 5:00pm. Since meetings are only held 3-4 times per semester, regular attendance is important. Students should not apply unless they are able to commit to attending meetings at these dates and times for both the fall and spring semesters.
Students who meet these requirements should submit a completed application by August 6th.
