Disability and Access (D&A) ensures students with disabilities have equal access to their academic experiences at the University of Texas at Austin by determining eligibility and approving reasonable accommodations. We also engage in outreach across campus in order to make campus more accessible and welcoming environment for people with disabilities.
Disability and Access is the name of our office as of May 2022. Prior to this, we were known as Services for Students with Disabilities.
Disability and Access is located on the fourth floor of the Student Services Building. Take some time to browse through our website to find information on how to register with D&A, guidelines for documentation, and information about our accommodations and services. General resources for the UT community may be found on UT’s Disability Resource page.
Here’s what some students with disabilities have to say about working with Disability and Access (formerly known as Services for Students with Disabilities):
“Don’t be afraid to take advantage of the great resources UT has in store for you! They can really make a difference and help you a great deal in your learning journey.” ~ Junior, Moody College of Communication
“Using disability services is not a way to get around the rules and get a leg up on other students. It is a well-calibrated system that is excellent at addressing specific disabilities. If you know you have a disability that will hamper your learning, then utilize the services offered. SSD is there to help.” ~Senior, College of Natural Sciences
“If you believe that the SSD could help you in any form or fashion, please utilize their resources. Getting accommodations from the SSD was the most helpful thing I did my entire time at UT, and I do not regret it at all.” ~Sophomore, College of Liberal Arts
“Even if you’re unsure, there is no harm in consulting someone about an intake appointment. If you end up truly needing the accommodations, you will be so glad you have them. Things don’t have to be so hard. You deserve a level playing field. SSD is there to give it for you.” ~ Senior, Moody College of Communication
