D&A uses a portal to help students and instructors coordinate the provision of accommodations. Students and instructors can log in to the D&A Portal with their EID and password. The Student and Instructor Portals have different modules that provide different functions based on their role in the accommodation process at UT.
Please check out our D&A Portal FAQ page for more information about using the D&A Portal.
D&A Portal Overview
The Student Portal contains the following modules:
- Accommodation Letters
- Course Notes
- Note-takers
Students have access to these modules based on their role and their approved D&A accommodations. The D&A Student Portal allows students registered with D&A to request and download their accommodation letters, request a notetaker for their classes, and download shared notes.
The Instructor Portal contains the Accommodation Letters module.
Instructors can use this module to view their students’ accommodation letters. Instructors will only be able to access information for students who have requested accommodation Lltters for their class(es).
D&A Modules Overview
Accommodation Letters Module
D&A does not automatically issue accommodation letters to students and instructors. Accommodation letters are only generated after a student submits a request to D&A for their letters.
Students and instructors will receive an email when an accommodation letter is available to view via the D&A Portal. Students and instructors will be able to log in to their respective portal to be able to view and/or download the accommodation letter.
Instructors can decide whether they would like to use the D&A Instructor Portal to access accommodation letters. Students should communicate with instructors to find out if their instructor will be viewing accommodation letters and handouts via the portal, or if the student should download and print a hard copy or email a copy to deliver it to the instructor.
Instructors have the option of confirming receipt of the accommodation letter via the portal, which will trigger an email notification to the student. Even if instructors choose to view accommodation letters online, students are still responsible for contacting instructors to discuss their accommodation letters, including any associated handouts. Instructors do not have to provide approved accommodations until they have discussed them with the student.
Course Notes and Note-takers Modules
Students who are registered with D&A and approved for notetaking assistance as an accommodation will be able to access the Course Notes module on the D&A Student Portal to request a notetaker for each of their classes where notes are needed.
Students who sign up with D&A as a volunteer notetaker will be able to access the Note-takers module to upload copies of their class notes to the D&A Student Portal. To maintain confidentiality, notetakers will be unable to identify who is receiving their copy of class notes, and students will be unable to identify the volunteer notetaker.
The D&A Instructor Portal does not contain a notetaking module, which means instructors are unable to use the portal to coordinate students’ notetaking accommodations online. Instructors should refer to D&A’s Notetaking Guidelines Handout for information about how to provide a copy of class notes to students approved for notetaking assistance.
More detailed information about receiving and providing copies of class notes and implementing additional accommodations can be found on the Student Volunteer Notetakers page.
