Volunteer notetakers help make UT more accessible by sharing class notes with students approved for notetaking accommodations through D&A. In addition to supporting fellow students, volunteer notetakers earn service hours, strengthen their own notetaking skills and build career-ready skills.
How to Become a Volunteer Notetaker
Build your profile.
Select the courses for which you’re available to provide notes. You must be enrolled in the course.
Upload a sample of your notes for review.
Notetaker Guidelines
Once selected, you’ll receive an email notification. Upload your notes as soon as possible after each lecture.
- Typed notes in Word documents are preferred.
- Photos of handwritten notes are accepted if the writing is legible and pages are numbered.
- Combine notes from each lecture into one document.
- Notes should cover lectures and discussion sections only, not textbook readings or external sources.
Your identity is not shared with students through the D&A Student Portal. Before uploading notes, review your documents to ensure your name and other personal information is not included.
If you’re unable to continue serving as a notetaker, log in to the D&A Student Portal and remove your availability as soon as possible so another volunteer can be assigned.
Notetaking
Notetaking helps develop skills in communication, critical thinking organization and professionalism. You can also schedule an appointment at the Sanger Learning Center to strengthen your notetaking skills.
