Every semester, you'll request your accommodation letters and discuss them with your instructors. Follow the steps below to use your approved accommodations and services.
Register with D&A
You must be registered with Disability and Access (D&A) and have an active file before you can use accommodations.
Request Your Accommodation Letters
At the beginning of each semester you need accommodations, request your accommodation letters through the D&A Student Portal.
Once you submit your request:
- You and your instructors will automatically receive email notifications.
- Your accommodation letters will be available to view and download in the portal.
Important: Instructors are not required to provide accommodations until they receive your accommodation letter from D&A.
Note for Deaf and hard of hearing students: Requesting accommodation letters is not the same as requesting interpreting or captioning services. Submit those requests directly to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D&HH) Services team at DHH@austin.utexas.edu.
Meet With Your Instructors
After requesting your letters, follow up with each instructor to discuss the listed accommodation and work together to determine how they will be provided. This conversation may take place in the format that works best for both parties — email, phone call or meeting during office hours.
Use Your Accommodations Throughout the Semester
Once you've requested your accommodation letters and spoken with your instructors, you can begin using your approved accommodations.
If your accommodations aren't being implemented correctly or your needs change during the semester, contact your D&A access coordinator as soon as possible.
If an instructor doesn't respond within five business days after you reach out, contact your access coordinator for assistance.
