Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

ADHD is a neurologically based, developmental disability characterized by differences in attention, impulse control and activity level. Many students with ADHD are creative, intuitive thinkers who bring unique perspectives to the classroom. Experiences vary widely from student to student, and the increased demands for organization, time management and structure in college can create additional challenges.

Barriers to Access  

In a college environment, you might find some of these things more challenging:

• Environments with a lot of sensory input or distractions
• Taking notes while listening to lectures
• Keeping track of important dates and deadlines
• Processing written or verbal instructions after only encountering them once
• Following oral instructions without written or visual support
• Long class periods without opportunities to move or take breaks
