Learning Disabilities

Learning disabilities are neurologically based disabilities that affect how people process, retain and communicate information. Many students with learning disabilities are highly capable, resourceful problem-solvers who have developed strong strategies for navigating challenges. Learning disabilities may impact reading, writing, math, memory, organization or spoken language, and no two students will have the same experience.

Barriers to Access

In a college environment, you might find some of these things more challenging:

• Reading aloud or being called on unexpectedly
• Processing written material quickly under time pressure 
• Using handwriting when typing isn’t permitted
• Transposing numbers or letters in writing or math 
• Taking notes while listening to lectures
• Timed tasks involving reading, writing or math
